Cilia - a sensory organelle

Project details

We study the physiological function of primary cilia in a cell- and tissue-specific context. We are trying to address the main question: How do cilia function as a cellular antenna that receives information from the environment and locally transduces this information into a cellular response?

Ciliary dysfunction results in severe diseases commonly referred as ciliopathies. We aim to address the question why ciliary dysfunction leads to different phenotypes in different tissues. To this end, we work with mouse models as well as human cells and tissues.
